Question Can others in my company who are working on projects similar to mine, and who file patent applications before me, cause problems with my patent application?

Question Prior to the latest changes in the Patent Act, yes. However, the American Inventors protection Act of 1999 will preclude the filings of other inventors in the same company from causing those patentability problems with your patent application. The catch is that the inventors must agree, before they make the invention, to assign their inventions to the same company.
