Question My company has developed a new way of doing business on the Internet. Should we patent our ideas?

Question Yes. The patent office has traditionally denied patents in two areas important to an Internet business: software development and business models. Recent cases have greatly expanded patent rights in these areas. The patent office regularly issues patents on software that would have been rejected a few years ago. Internet businesses with novel Web site features should consider using patents to protect those ideas.
